Preschool Curriculum

We believe in taking an individualized approach to learning, and our preschool program is no exception: our youngest learners receive personalized teaching that follows and supports their unique interests, talents and needs.

Our comprehensive preschool curriculum (Creative Curriculum) addresses social and emotional development, as well as literacy, math, social studies, science, technology, art and fine and gross motor development skills. In addition, we also follow Everyday Counts, an interactive math program and Handwriting Without Tears, which uses multi-sensory techniques and consistent habits to embed handwriting skills.

Class sizes are limited to 12 students per classroom, in groups of mixed-age 3 and 4 year olds. Children benefit from this mixed-age grouping as it supports their social learning and provides an opportunity for both the development of leadership skills in the older children and a chance to learn from their older classmates for those who are 3. This setup gives every student a chance to shine and builds a sense of security as there is always someone that a child can relate to and give them the confidence to grow. Our preschool teachers are all trained in fostering the benefits of this approach and are adept at identifying the unique needs of all their students.

Our preschool schedule follows a fixed daily timetable:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
  • Wednesday: 8:00 am to 11:30 am

Encore Classes for Preschool Students

Every week our preschool students have encore classes to enrich their curriculum:

It helps students develop basic body control, explore concepts of rhythm and space and learn how to use balls, implements, and other equipment. Classes emphasize working with partners and classmates and involves basic patterns of play and games. Students also learn the importance of following directions.

We introduce and reinforce basic musical concepts through singing, movement, dancing, playing instruments, and structured listening. Once a year, our preschool students participate in a concert for friends and family.

Through weekly visits, preschool students are introduced to story-time and book discussions, which are interwoven with the classroom curriculum. They also have an opportunity to use Smart Boards and interact with stories and games.

Once a week, our preschool students participate in hands-on activities where they learn to think like a scientist and develop observational skills. Students develop hypotheses, conduct experiments, make predictions, draw conclusions and figure out solutions to problems while learning new vocabulary, trying their hand at cooking, building amazing structures or solving mathematical problems.

Art projects are a part of each week’s activities; a wide variety of art materials are available during free-choice times. Art is fully integrated into child and teacher initiated language arts, social studies, science, and math projects, but our students also have an extra art class a week to learn about different artists, styles, techniques, and materials through in-depth projects that really bring the arts to life for them.

An Engaging and Stimulating Environment

Play is essential for preschool children. It is fundamental to their social development, and we encourage lots of it in our program. Children have many opportunities to choose materials, playmates, and learning centers within the classroom.

Our teachers are experienced and trained to carefully observe the students and support and extend their play. In this way, each day, in each classroom, teachers are working toward specific learning objectives found in our curriculum.

There is a rhythm and routine to the preschool day. Within this routine we include time for:

  • Whole group activities
  • Small group activities
  • Teacher-directed activities
  • Child choice time
  • Park time
  • Snack

Every class spends 45 minutes outside in the playground where they work on their gross motor skills by running, climbing, riding tricycles and cars. Outside they also interact with children from other classrooms.

Language opportunities and experiences are abundant throughout the day in every classroom. Circle time, story time, finger play, poems, and labeling of items in the classroom enrich their daily routine.

The preschool children are given classroom responsibilities that change weekly to build independence and self-confidence. We strive to teach them how to do things on their own and come up with solutions to their problems. Preschoolers are very capable and resourceful if given the opportunity!

English Immersion at Preschool Stage

Based on all the recent neurological and language acquisition research, we believe that total immersion in a foreign language is the best way for children to learn. Studies show that the preadolescent brain is wired differently for language than that of an adult. This makes it much easier for a small child to acquire and reproduce any sound like a native language speaker.

By design, the size of our classes are kept small to provide a language rich environment for our children. This enables them to acquire their second language as naturally as their first.
